Garden centers and plant nurseries sell annuals, perennials, shrubs, trees and houseplants, along with soil, fertilizer, pots and tools. Independent nurseries usually grow part of their own stock and carry varieties suited to the local climate, while big-box garden departments compete on price for common plants. Plant shops focus on houseplants, succulents and orchids, often with repotting help. Landscape designers plan planting beds, patios and irrigation, and some garden centers offer design and installation services as well.
